The Premium Whisky Experience

Private. Exceptional. Personally curated.

The Premium Whisky Experience is tuigsear’s most considered whisky journey, created for collectors, connoisseurs and guests who want to explore Scotch whisky at greater depth.

This is not simply a more expensive version of a standard whisky tour.

It is an individually designed experience built around exceptional distillery visits, specialist tastings, rare whiskies and the kind of conversations and perspectives that come from genuine industry knowledge.

Every journey is different. The emphasis is on quality, depth and access, rather than the number of distilleries visited.

Choose Your Whisky Region

Your Premium Whisky Experience can be designed around either the Scottish Highlands or Speyside, or incorporated into a wider multi-day whisky journey.

The two regions offer very different possibilities.

The Highlands combine distinctive distilleries with dramatic landscapes, coastal communities and considerable variation in whisky style.

Speyside offers an extraordinary concentration of producers, ranging from some of the most recognised names in Scotch whisky to smaller and more specialist distilleries.

We recommend the region and experiences that best suit what you actually want from the journey.

Exceptional Distillery Experiences

The Premium Whisky Experience is built around the visits that are genuinely worth travelling for.

Depending on availability and your interests, this may include extended tastings, warehouse or maturation-focused experiences, specialist production visits, older and rarer expressions, or private, specialist or limited-capacity opportunities that offer greater depth than a standard distillery visit.

Some of these experiences can become the centrepiece of the day, with the rest of the itinerary shaped around them rather than squeezed in alongside them.

We never promise access that has not been confirmed, and any additional distillery costs are discussed clearly before bookings are made.

Rare Whisky, Thoughtfully Chosen

Alongside distillery visits, we can incorporate carefully selected whiskies from our own collection.

These may include older expressions, independent bottlings, limited releases, closed-distillery whisky and other unusual drams chosen because they add something meaningful to the journey.

The emphasis is never on pouring the rarest bottle simply for the sake of it.

What matters is context: why the whisky is interesting, how it was made or matured, what makes it distinctive, and how it connects to the distilleries, people and places explored during the day.

  • Designed Around You

    There is no standard Premium itinerary.

    Your journey may be shaped around:

    • particular distilleries;

    • favourite producers or whisky styles;

    • vintage or age-statement interests;

    • sherry, bourbon or other cask maturation;

    • independent bottlers;

    • closed or historic distilleries;

    • production and maturation;

    • rare whisky;

    • collecting;

    • milestone birthdays and celebrations;

    • one-day or multi-day whisky travel.

    If you already have a detailed wish list, we can refine it into something realistic and well paced.

    If you would rather leave the planning to us, we can build the experience from the ground up after learning what you enjoy and what you would most like to discover.

  • Fewer Stops. Greater Depth.

    Premium whisky experiences often require more time.

    A warehouse tasting, extended production experience or specialist distillery visit can easily become the centrepiece of the day.

    For that reason, we do not design these journeys around an arbitrary number of distilleries.

    One exceptional experience, complemented by another carefully chosen visit, a relaxed lunch and a rare whisky tasting can offer considerably more than attempting to rush through four or five locations.

    The day should feel considered from beginning to end.

  • Your Whisky Hosts

    The Premium Whisky Experience can be hosted by Liam Urquhart, John MacDonald, or, where appropriate, both.

    Liam is the founder of tuigsear and brings practical whisky-industry experience, detailed knowledge of the Highlands and a personal approach to private whisky touring and tasting.

    John is a former Distillery Manager at Balblair, a Keeper of the Quaich, and brings more than 35 years of experience across Scotch whisky production, including Glenmorangie, Glen Moray, Ardbeg and 18 years leading Balblair.

    For guests seeking deeper production knowledge, industry perspective and whisky conversation, having both hosts available can create a particularly special experience.

  • Private Transport and Hosting

    The Premium Whisky Experience is completely private.

    For smaller groups, travel is usually by executive SUV with a dedicated whisky host.

    Larger private groups can be accommodated by comfortable minibus, with additional hosting available where it meaningfully improves the experience.

    Transport, route planning, bottled water, hosted whisky pours and preparation of your bespoke itinerary can all form part of the experience.

    Distillery admissions and specialist experiences are quoted transparently according to the final itinerary unless specifically stated otherwise in your proposal.

  • One Day or Several

    While the Premium Whisky Experience can be created as a single full day, some of the most rewarding journeys unfold over two or more days.

    A multi-day experience allows us to combine the Highlands and Speyside, incorporate more substantial distillery visits and preserve the relaxed pace that defines tuigsear.

    For collectors and serious whisky enthusiasts, this is often the best way to explore Scotland’s whisky country without reducing it to a list of appointments.

  • Begin Your Premium Whisky Journey

    The Premium Whisky Experience is intended for guests who value knowledge, time and access more than simply accumulating stops.

    It can be as detailed, specialist or celebratory as you wish, but it will always remain personal.

    Tell us what you drink, what interests you and what would make the journey genuinely memorable. We will build from there.
